Benefits of Steam Room

posted 25 Feb 2011, 09:17 by Simply Kitchen

The benefits of the steam room have been known for thousands of years and throughout history countless people have been using steam to enhance their sense of well being and improve their overall health. At the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st a huge influx in health conscious individuals in western society has fuelled a vast growth in the health industry.

In the past, steam rooms have been restricted to health clubs and gyms, and many think steam rooms are only used at home by the wealthy; however top steam room specialists have made this wonderful past time available to everybody, not just the rich. With cutting edge technology at affordable prices, countless people are now enjoying all the wonderful benefits of a steam room.

Brief Overview of Steam Room Benefits

In a steam room, wet heat opens the pores of your skin to aid body detoxification. A steam generator is used to create water vapour at high levels of humidity. The heat and humidity may bring health benefits ranging from aiding stress relief, to body cleansing, to soothing aching muscles or arthritis. This article will highlight the main benefits and the importance of using a steam room:

1st Steam Room Benefit: Eliminate toxins

The average body has approximately 2.6 million sweat glands. The body only has four ways to excrete toxins; urine, feces, respiration and perspiration. During a steam room session the body can sweat out up to 30% of its toxins that have built up. Studies have shown that environmental chemicals and poor diet cause 95% of cancers, which in today’s society makes a steam room a very healthy and practical addition to the home.

2nd Steam Room Benefit: Rejuvenate and Hydrate the Skin

Heat from the steam causes the heart to beat faster and harder in an attempt to cool the body, causing blood to flood even the smallest capillaries. Increased blood flow to these tiny capillaries (just under the skins surface) causes the skin to glow and look healthy because the blood cells carry minerals, vitamins and oxygen: vital for a healthy body. In addition, this increases the rate of body metabolism.

3rd Steam Room Benefit: Boost the immune system: Hyperthermia

Hyperthermia refers to an elevation of core body temperature to above 37.2°C for therapeutic purposes. During a steam room session the body temperature rises and when the body temperature rises it is called a fever (elevation of body temperature above the normal level). A virus can only usually survive within a narrow temperature range. Therefore an increase in body temperature may either stunt the virus’ multiplication or kill the virus. Fever triggers the body to release white blood cells, antibodies and a protein called interferon. The white blood cells, which are produced in the bone marrow, help to defend the body against infectious diseases and foreign materials. Antibodies are proteins which help protect against disease-causing micro-organisms whilst interferon is any group of proteins produced by cells in the body in response to an attack by a virus.

4th Steam Room Benefit: Enhance the Respiratory System

Steam inhalation supports mucosal secretions in the respiratory system and helps to open up the airways therefore reducing respiration resistance. This helps to relieve the discomfort of asthma and allergies. Steam room benefits also include relieving inflammation and congestion of upper respiratory mucous membranes. It also helps to loosen secretions, stimulate the discharge of mucous from the throat and lungs (natural expectorant) and keeps mucous membranes from excessive drying.

5th Steam Room Benefit: Relieve Stress and Relax Muscles

Heat from the steam causes the muscles to relax, widening the blood vessels, allowing more oxygen to flow to them, releasing their tension. The heat also gives relief to sufferers of arthritis. The heat from the steam causes the whole body to relax; this experience melts away stress and soothes the mind & body.

Termite Control with Orange Oil

posted 24 Feb 2011, 08:17 by Simply Kitchen

First of all, I highly recommend hiring a trained and licensed inspector to determine the extent of your termite infestations. The type of termite and their location will determine what type of treatment would be effective for your home. Orange Oil or (D-limonene) based termite and pest control products are not considered an alternative to tenting as the two processes are completely different and offer different pros and cons. Understanding the advantages and disadvantages will help you make an educated decision when selecting your control method.

If you're considering orange oil termite control make sure you find a qualified termite company that offers traditional treatments and fumigation as well. This way you will get an unbiased opinion regarding your specific termite control needs. No infestation is the same and no single treatment method can handle every type of termite infestation.

Orange oil products contain the active ingredient d-limonene. D-limonene is extracted from the rinds of oranges, and it's the same chemical found in many household products. Due to d-limonene's low toxicity, it has become increasingly popular and the preferred termite control method for many home owners and industries. Orange oil is also used in the manufacturing of resins, cleaning compounds, and as a fragrance additive in many products.

An orange oil treatment for termites is localized spot application of each identified termite infestation and will only kill termites in the areas treated. Treatment with orange oil requires drilling into the infested wood members and injecting the product into the termite galleries. Orange oil is effective for drywood termites, not subterranean termite infestations.

Orange oil termite control is an effective method of treatment but don't believe that traditional treatments and fumigation are no longer valid options that should be discarded. Only tent fumigation can guarantee complete drywood termite eradication of an entire structure at once. Here's why, 90-95% of a buildings wood framing is covered by drywall, plaster, flooring, insulation, paint, roofing, stucco and so on. Localized treatment with orange oil will only control the infestation in the areas where an infestation can be identified and treated. Termites spread by swarming (flying) and can land in the most secluded places in a structure to begin a new infestation; if you can't get to that area for a thorough inspection then you will have no knowledge of the need for treatment in that area either. So the question comes back, does every house need to be fumigated? The answer is "no". It depends on the areas of infestation, level of infestations, size and age of the colonies, type of termites you have, and whether or not your going to be satisfied with the idea of controlling your home or structures termite infestations or you want them completely eradicated from the structure all at once.

Advantages of Orange Oil Termite Control:
No moving out overnight during the treatment.
No need to remove plants or board pets.
No bagging of food or medicine.
No walking on the roof.

Disadvantages of Orange Oil Termite Control:
Orange oil will not control undetected infestations
Large treatments with orange oil could cost more than fumigation
Orange oil does not leave a long lasting residual for future protection
Orange oil requires drilling into your walls and wood members

Colour Palette For Your Dinning Roam

posted 24 Feb 2011, 08:09 by Simply Kitchen

When decorating your dining room, one of the main things to think about, other than the actual dining room furniture, is the color palette. You need to decide what color your dining room furniture will be, and also what color the walls, the paneling (if any), the accessories, linen, table china etc, will be, so that you have a harmonious whole rather than a bunch of disparate or mismatched elements put together in the name of a dining room.

There are certain colors that are best avoided in the dining room because they are thought to be appetite suppressants. It is thought, by proponents of Feng Shui and by certain other experts, that the color blue should be avoided when decorating the dining room. While you are unlikely to have blue dining furniture, you should also avoid blue to decorate the walls; this is because blue is not a color that occurs very frequently in nature. There are not very many natural foods that are blue in color and so the color blue is considered to be an appetite suppressant. Similarly the colors pink and violet are also thought to be appetite suppressants and are generally to be avoided in the dining room even if they may look nice in conjunction with your particular dining room table.

Yellow and cream are generally thought to be good colors to build a convivial atmosphere in the dining room. Yellow is a friendly and sociable color and is therefore thought to inspire conversation and interaction. Cream is a neutral color which is a good pick for the dining area simply because it is unlikely to clash with any of your dining room furniture, whichever hue that is. It is by itself a soothing color making it an ideal choice.

One great way to create some drama in your dining room is to have an accent wall: while you can have three walls of a neutral or light color, say cream, beige or white; you can color one of the walls a rich shade of maroon, or orange, or red. These colors will also off set your dining furniture especially if your Dinning furniture is in dark shades of mahogany or similar. Not only do bright colors such as orange and red look attractive and dramatic, they are also thought to be appetite stimulants. They are also warm and inviting colors, and therefore create a welcoming atmosphere in the dining room.

When picking a color palette for your dining room, not only is it important to color coordinate the color of the walls to the color of your dining room furniture, it is also important to pick a color according to the size of the room: for instance certain colors create the sense of space while certain dark or dense colors tend to dwarf the proportions of the room. It is especially important to use light colors if you have dark paneling in your dining room. Remember cool colors recede from the eye; warm colors come forward so keep all of this in mind when picking a color palette for your dining room.
